This transfer tooling project, carried out at Dekalb Tool & Die, Inc. facility for a customer in the automotive industry, created optimal quality tooling used in the manufacture of a 20″ decorative automotive wheel cladding with a 2.25″ draw depth. Our tool and die experts used 3-D rendering to create a draw simulation, ensuring that the transfer tooling would carry out the part manufacture exactly as specified. Making use of our tool and die shop CNC machining capabilities, Dekalb Tool and Die contoured the tooling for six individual stations on multiple metal stamping presses to within ± .5mm.
Dekalb Tool & Die’s quality control process for the 301 stainless steel transfer tooling included in-house die tryout and CMM inspection. With annual estimated usage at 250,000 units, it was critical for our customer’s tooling to be accurate and durable in order to meet the demands of the manufacturing process.
